The versions of gnuplotMode.tcl that ship with gnuplot 2.0b4 and Alpha 7.0 don't function correctly. A working version is available at the link below. You also need to do the following:
This probably isn't ready to ship, but I've been promising it so long that I felt it was better to go ahead and release it than to wait any longer. A few things may broken. I'm leaving a34 on the server for the time being.
You should use the text editor Alpha as the console and text editor. Please use Alpha 6.5 or later. An integrated console and text editor is under development, but Alpha will continue to be a better solution for most people. BBEdit support is possible, but someone else will have to write a BBEdit plug-in. I am willing to support this. If you are interested in doing it, please let me know.
Gnuplot will still run if Alpha is not present. There is also a setting in the preferences dialog which tells gnuplot not to use a console at all. This enables you to drive gnuplot via Apple events without having the console in the way.

Here is a really cool QuickTime movie of a rotating, 3d gnuplot plot. This movie was created by Holger Skok using gnuplot and an application which makes Macintosh PICT files into QuickTime movies. AppleScript was used to repeatedly drive gnuplot in order to generate the individual frames.

Jay Bourland has created an interactive web page which uses Macintosh gnuplot and Userland Frontier to generate interactive plots. Check it out. Jay said that he would like some feedback on this.

There are several processor specific versions here: 68K, 68K /w fpu, and PPC. Due to a lack of storage space, there is no fat binary version currently available. The fat binary option may return with the next release.
The old stand-alone application using the 3.6 code is still available. It is
based on patchlevel 224 of the gnuplot 3.6 beta code. The translation files
are not yet available. If you are using the C interface routines, you need
to update them for the 3.6 release of the application.
The current version of the 3.6 release is 1.0.5b.

The help information is stored in a file called 'gnuplot.gih'. This file belongs in a folder named 'docs' which belongs in the same folder as the gnuplot application.
The application uses the PowerPlant class library supplied by Metrowerks. This class library makes calls to Color QuickDraw routines which may not be available on your Mac. A crash may occur as a result. The next version of the application will check to see if Color QuickDraw is available. It still won't run, but at least it won't crash. Your only option now is to use the server application. Unfortunately it cannot display Mac graphics. A future version of the server will include a simple Mac graphics window so that it can display plots.
Yes! Mac gnuplot is Apple event aware. C source for interapplication communication with gnuplot is available on the ftp site. There are also links available on this page. The interapplication code changed between the gnuplot 3.5 and gnuplot 3.6 versions, so you need to use the correct file.
The server was initially a quick way to get the gnuplot 3.6 code up and running on the Macintosh. Jeff Schindall was working on the Alpha tcl code at the time, so we combined the two efforts. It's still very useful if you are mainly generating plots in PostScript, LaTeX, etc... and like to use Alpha. The plumbing of the larger application has been redesigned to use the server as it's back end. The server now has a simple Mac graphics window.
Yes. It's recordable too.
Yes! Try 'set term mac gx'. The support is somewhat spotty at present. GX Printing is supported for graphic output but not with the text editor. Most text features are not supported yet. Improved GX support is in progress.
Yes. The apple event code is the same in both the application and the server. There will be more integration between the two applications with version 1.1 of the gnuplot application.
Not yet. In the next release of the application you will be able to do this in the PPC version of gnuplot. A bug in the 68K version of Alpha currently prevents this from working on the 68K version.
Yes! The plot and splot Apple events now assume that incoming text consists of data which needs to be plotted. This works for AppleScript, Frontier, or if you are sending the Apple events from another external program. If you want to plot the data from a file, you need to send either a file specification or an alias. You can plot the data in combination with a file or files if you wrap everything into a single parameter as a list. You can one item in the list can consist text data. You can also plot the clipboard by attaching the clipboard, which is a property of the application, to your list.
Please not now. You can when it gets out of beta. It will someday.
The beta versions of Mac gnuplot are based on the beta version of the gnuplot 3.6 code. I took the opportunity to rewrite the way that the Mac interface code communicates with the core gnuplot code. As a result, some things broke and are only now getting fixed. A major casualty was the 'Settings' menu. While this has been a step backwards in some ways, it is a major improvement in others. If I had not done this, a Mac version of gnuplot 3.6 might never have seen the light of day.
