ColumnLayout
(Software: Library)
ColumnLayout is a LayoutManager for displaying a single column of components, each maintaining its own height and width. Layout managers such as GridLayout and BorderLayout resize their components depending on the heights or widths of other components in a layout, resulting in oversized buttons, stretched text fields, and unwanted gaps between components. FlowLayout maintains components at their preferred sizes but provides no way to keep components in a single column. With ColumnLayout, all components stay in a single column. Each component will appear with its own preferred height, and each component can be either the width of the widest component in the column or its own preferred width with left, right, or center alignment. ColumnLayout is small, efficient, and easy-to-use. Unlike many shareware layout managers, ColumnLayout is free for commercial or non-commercial purposes. Source code is also available.

RowLayout is a LayoutManager for displaying a single row of components, each maintaining its own height and width. Layout managers such as GridLayout and BorderLayout resize their components depending on the heights or widths of other components in a layout, resulting in oversized buttons, stretched text fields, and unwanted gaps between components. FlowLayout maintains components at their preferred sizes but provides no way to keep components in a single row. With RowLayout, all components stay in a single row. Each component will appear with its own preferred width, and each component can be either the height of the tallest component in the row or its own preferred height with top, bottom, or center alignment. RowLayout is small, efficient, and easy-to-use. Unlike many shareware layout managers, RowLayout is free for commercial or non-commercial purposes. Source code is also available.

EasyLay Java Layout Manager
(Software: Library)
EasyLay is a JDK 1.0.2 and JDK 1.1 compliant layout manager. Each component's position in the container is expressed in terms of its relationships to other components, using simple layout elements: direction, gap, alignment, size and fill. Elaborate layouts can be defined quickly and easily, without deployment of multiple panels and layout managers. Supports scaling and font scaling. Works well with Swing.
