In this short article I will explain how to implement a volume control that can be operated from your keyboard. I implemented this on my own PC because I find gui mixer apps to be rather clumsy. By binding a small program for increasing/decreasing the volume setting on your soundcard you can have a volume control right at your finger tips.

Running Windows software under Linux

The struggle with the Onboard SoundPro chip

This is a story about the struggle I had to get a SoundPro onboard chip working. The PC in question is a 1 year old Pentium, with a Cyrix P200+ chip and a SiS chipset on the motherboard. Having heard of other people having SiS related problems with Linux, I started suspecting the chipset rather soon and it turned out I was right. Here is how it all happened and how I managed to get it working, although not quite as well as I would have liked.
