| Year 2000 Statement for PKWARE Products |
Because of growing concerns regarding the impact of the Year 2000 on
computer systems running PKWARE's products, we have developed this document
to outline the current and planned future status for all of our products.
The following product(s) have no date related functionality:
-
PKWARE DATA COMPRESSION LIBRARY (all versions, all platforms)
The following product(s) have no known issues dealing with date-related
functions beyond the year 2000. For products running on DOS or Windows
platforms, date related activities, such as the sorting and displaying
of dates, are handled correctly for all valid dates within the DOS FAT
file structure (1980 - 2100). For products running on UNIX platforms, date
related activities are supported for the valid date ranges supported by
the underlying operating system (1970 - 2038).
-
PKZIP for Windows (version 2.60 and later, all platforms)
-
PKZIP for DOS (versions before 1.10) and OS/2 (versions before
1.09)
- PKZIP 2.50 for DOS
-
PKZIP Command Line for OS/2 (version 2.50 and later)
-
PKZIP Command Line for Windows 95/NT (version 2.50 and later, all
platforms)
-
PKZIP Command Line for UNIX (version 2.50 and later, all platforms)
-
PKUNZIP for DOS and OS/2 (all versions, including Junior version)
-
PKZIP for OpenVMS (all versions)
-
PKARC/PKXARC (all versions)
-
PKPAK/PKUNPAK (all versions)
-
PKLITE (all versions)
-
PKZFIND/PKZOOM (all versions)
-
PKZIPFIX (all versions)
-
PKSFX (all versions, including ZIP2EXE)
The following product(s) have minor Year 2000 date related limitations,
as described below. However, these limitations will not affect the actual
files or data stored by PKWARE software. No data conversions will be needed
on any existing .ZIP files.
-
PKZIP for Windows (versions 2.01 - 2.50)
-
Selecting files by date in a .ZIP file will only accept a range from 1980
through 2009.
-
Viewing files in a .ZIP file will only display dates in the form mm/dd/yy.
-
Anticipated solution:
Dates entered as a 2 digit value will be interpreted as being in a
date range from 1980 through 2079. Dates entered as a 4 digit value will
accommodate dates that span more than 100 years. The method of correction
will consist of "expanded date fields".
-
Scheduled correction date:
PKZIP for Windows Version 2.60 (released December 19, 1997)
-
PKZIP for DOS (versions 1.10 – 2.04g) and PKZIP for OS/2
(versions 1.09 - 1.11)
-
Selecting files to be added to a .ZIP file by date will only accept a range
from 1980 through 1999 (-t and -T options).
-
Viewing files in a .ZIP file using the default will display dates in the
form mm/dd/yy. The four digit year can be viewed using the option to view
technical information (-vt).
-
Anticipated solution:
Dates entered as a 2 digit value will be interpreted as being in a
date range from 1980 through 2079. Dates entered as a 4 digit value will
accommodate dates that span more than 100 years. The method of correction
will consist of "expanded date fields".
-
Scheduled correction date:
PKZIP for DOS, Version 2.50 (released March 30, 1999)
PKZIP Command Line for OS/2, Version 2.50 (released June 2, 1997)
PKZMENU (all versions)
-
Selecting files to be extracted by date will only accept a range from 1980
through 1999. File dates stored in a .ZIP file, will only be displayed
correctly from 1980 through 1999.
-
Anticipated solution:
PKZMENU is a discontinued product. No modifications are anticipated.
However, because each customer's environment is different, due to the integration
of different combinations of third party software and hardware products,
any Year 2000 problem occurring within third party software and hardware
products may adversely impact the proper operation of the PKWARE software.
Accordingly, PKWARE strongly encourages its customers to review their entire
system environment for Year 2000 compliance.
This Year 2000 Readiness Disclosure refers to the existing PKWARE products
only and does not apply to third party products. PKWARE reserves
the right to change any of the information contained herein without notice.
PKWARE makes no representation or warranty respecting the accuracy or reliability
of information about non-PKWARE products. Such information, if any,
was provided by the manufacturers of those products and customers are urged
to contact the manufacturer directly for further clarification.
Previous Versions/Discontinued Products
Previous versions of products listed on this page and discontinued
products may not have been tested for Year 2000 compliance. In accordance
with the upgrade policies stated below, all non-discontinued products should
be upgraded to the most recently released version in order to ensure Year
2000 compliance.
Upgrades/Updates:
Upgrades to PKWARE products determined to be Year 2000 compliant will
be made available through standard PKWARE upgrade policies stated at the
time of such product release. For those products that Year 2000 modifications/fixes
are handled through product upgrades, users covered under the appropriate
product annual maintenance subscription option will receive the upgrade
free of charge. Users not covered under the annual maintenance subscription
option will be able to purchase the applicable product upgrade when it
becomes commercially available.
Year 2000 Upgrade Policy:
PKWARE is unable to guarantee that any future Upgrade to its products
will be only Year 2000 specific. Any feature enhancements or Year
2000 specific changes will generally be incorporated together in any PKWARE
product Upgrade. These will be made available to users based on existing
Upgrade or Maintenance Subscription policies stated at the time of such
product’s release. For those users with a current maintenance subscription
agreement, there will be no-charge for upgrades (this includes Year 2000
related upgrades). Users not covered under the Maintenance Subscription
option will be able to receive the applicable product Upgrade, when it
becomes commercially available, through the existing Upgrade Policy stated
at that time.
Year 2000 Compliance Definition:
A Year 2000 Compliant product accurately processes date data (including
but not limited to: calculating, comparing and sequencing dates), from,
into and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the years 1999
and 2000, and leap year calculations, when used in accordance with its
product user documentation, and provided all other products used in combination
with the product properly exchange data with it.
