Batch It Pro

I suspect a good number of the people out there reading this have a digital camera or are thinking of getting one. As a long time time digital camera owner,I'd like to offer a bit of advice (other than the obvious recommendation of getting yourself a decent set of rechargeable batteries) and that's to download and try BatchIt Pro. It's not going to be of much help when you're taking pictures, but it's a time saver when you finally get all those pics on your computer.

When you've got lots of images (from a digital camera, pics you've downloaded, etc.) sitting around that you want to work with, two things become obvious. It's impossible to tell what's what by simply looking at the filenames. I'm not a member of the Psychic Friends Network, so figuring out DCP_0893.jpg by name alone can be difficult without opening it up. Then they never seem to be in the size you want. If you're going to upload them to your Web site you've gotta shrink down the original image and then make some thumbnails. You don't actually have to make thumbnails but unless you want people running away in droves, you'd better.

Riding to the rescue is BatchIt Pro. BatchIt Pro alleviates all those hassles and automates everything from start to finish. Begin with a folder full of pics, end with a Web page full of thumbnail images and a separate set of pictures that are redone, edited, and perfectly safe for consumption. BatchIt Pro can do basic image editing like modifying brightness and contrast, rotating the image, and cropping it. You can chose to take advantage of this before you do a massive batch processing or not. I prefer to do the hardcore editing in PhotoShop or PaintShop then use BatchIt Pro for the hands on, bulk changes like resizing images.

At the point you're satisfied with the original images you can begin to take advantage of BatchIt Pro's other useful features like upsizing or downsizing your images and resizing them to what ever dimensions you want. Or you can use BatchIt Pro to add a caption, watermark, or copyright notice to each image. Just select the text you want added and BatchIt Pro will shoot through the entire group branding your message on every pic in a matter of seconds. You can also save the files in a different format, convert the pics to 16 bit Grayscale, and control the level of quality in your JPG and PNG images.

Camera Batteries and Image viewers

I have had my life simplified by the shareware version of thumbs plus,
but aseedeesee is quite good, It has a few more extra featues which are
quite useful - instant thumbnailing, comes to mind.

Beyond that, I highly reccomend using nimh batteries over nicads. They last ALOT longer, and don't contain radioactive byproducts.

Let me know if you ever need help with design or progamming.

Peace
Greg Willson
