XML and Metadata Developer Central

Resource Description Framework -- the Technology for Metadata
Metadata is a technology that enables developers to describe content. Metadata addresses many of the issues regarding managing, finding, accessing, filtering, personalizing, and aggregating Web content in a standard way. Developers can use metadata to build site maps, content ratings, stream channel definitions, search engine data collection (Web crawling), digital library collections, or distributed authoring solutions.

Metadata viewers can be built in Java and Dynamic HTML and can provide organic site maps with personalization and customization.
