About View Source

The purpose of View Source--Netscape's online technical magazine for developers--is to make your life as an Internet developer easier, and to make your efforts more robust, by giving you technical information about developing for the Netscape platform.

We publish new articles at least every three weeks. Our mission is to inspire great development based on the Netscape technologies. To to do so, we'll publish material with the following goals in mind:

To help you understand the strategic significance of Netscape technologies and products for you as a developer
To provide authoritative, code-level technical advice on developing with Netscape technologies
To identify specific technical opportunities you can take advantage of

We also provide a forum for the Internet development community to talk about what's being done with Netscape technologies, to let you talk about some of that great development you're doing. Many of the articles here are written by developers, and we provide regular updates about new products from third-party developers in our third-party-products column, Reliable Sources.

View Source includes feature articles written by Netscape staff members about Netscape technologies and products, Technical Perspective columns and the Editor's Corner written by yours truly (and others) about important aspects of the Netscape platform, a monthly scripting column by Danny Goodman, and our regular Human Interface Online column. Mostly, we feature how-to technical articles -- most of them written by practicing developers and programmers. All contents are designed to help your Netscape development efforts.

We can't do it all; even if we spent all our time between now and the millenium publishing articles about Netscape technologies and applications, we couldn't cover every last subject. Our goal is not to be comprehensive; instead, we aim to be strategic, and cover only the most important topics, the ones that are most interesting and useful to the most people. Despite that, the View Source archive already provides a significant, useful body of technical information, one that you'll want to reference frequently. (If you're looking for greater depth, and more comprehensive information, you'll want to spend some time exploring the DevEdge Online Web site--especially the Documentation area--if you haven't already.)

Let us know how we're doing. Are we covering the topics you need to know about? What's important to you that you'd like to read more about? We welcome your feedback and your ideas.

We also welcome your contributions. You're the folks working with Netscape technologies, developing solutions that push the boundaries of Internet development, and making your livelihoods on the strengths of the platform. That means you're also best able to tell others how the technologies really work, and to provided the nuts-and-bolts technical material to move the Netscape platform forward. Write us with your ideas, and we'll help you develop them into an article.

Last, but not least, welcome to View Source. Check back here every couple of weeks for new articles, and we look forward to seeing you here on a regular basis.
