Welcome to the Games Foundry. SourceForge Foundries serve as palce for developers to congregate, share expertise and news, get and give advice, and generally help each other develop better software faster (this is Open Source, after all).
As long as there has been free software there have been free games. Starting with text and simple X11 favorites all the way to the latest and greatest 3D action games, there are quite a few open source games to choose from - many of which host their sites and development information right here at SourceForge!

Linux Game Tome
linuxgames.com and linux.com list games which run on Linux (may or may not be free software).

Project Kickoff
Durin - 2000-Aug-14 06:56 - JAVA MUD
Finally JAM development started. Unfortunately I'm going into holidays very soon, but I hope to get JAM-v0.1 (including JAM-src-v0.1 and JAM-doc-v0.1) out before. The first release (very pre-alpha) will just provide some socket handling and output to a window/console. Documentation will hopefully be up to date when releasing the first development version.
DFA is now hosted on SourceForge
davecope - 2000-Aug-14 05:31 - Death From Above
DFA is now being hosted on SourceForge. I am hoping that the excellent services provided by SourceForge will allow all developers to collaborate more easily. Hopefully we will have a release soon. Check back soon for more project info.
First public beta released
hoefkens - 2000-Aug-13 21:02 - bacKgammon
bacKgammon (the successor of KFibs) has released the first public beta. Using the beta requires some familiarity with FIBS commands and an existing account on FIBS. The release has been tested extensively and works well. Give it a try, report bugs and request features!
DooM Legacy v1.30 is finally available!
hurdler - 2000-Aug-12 11:15 - DooM Legacy
Yes, you can believe us, here it is, at last! DooM Legacy v1.30 (https://sourceforge.net/projects/doomlegacy/) is now available for Dos, Linux and Win32 environments. A MacOS, BeOS and OS/2 version based on this new one will be released soon (I hope) in beta. Multiplayer TCP/IP will be fully compatible between all those versions!
